Gene Bernshtam: Developing with Avalon Holdings
Gene Bernshtam and his company, Avalon Holdings LLC, specialize in developing apartment buildings and mixed-use properties with contemporary themes. Committed to his mission to restore and improve certain areas of Chicago, Gene Bernshtam continues to inspire developers and architects through his work. He wants to show them how one can be creative and playful, ultimately to do away with the practice of building cookie-cutter structures in the industry. Through his team at Avalon Holdings, many residents have found a home in Chicago that truly reflects their unique personalities and interests.
Developing real estate is never a simple task. There is a big gap between having a vision of what a piece of property could be and taking the steps needed to make it happen. This is why developers need to be knowledgeable on a variety of functions, from design and architecture to construction and engineering practices—as well as the business side of things. With this in mind, developers who have varied working experiences are more likely to be able to take their project off the ground and see through its completion.
At Avalon Holdings, the goal has always been to build one-of-a-kind structures, nothing like the cookie-cutter structures people typically see around Chicago. Gene Bernshtam places particular emphasis on providing these buildings and structures with a beautiful contemporary facade, outfitting them with modern LED lighting in large, spacious common areas. He envisions building apartments that can serve today’s 21st century needs.
When it comes to the designs, these were conceived from a minimalistic contemporary standpoint. Despite the approach however, the facade of these buildings still manages to evoke a warm, homey feeling to it. This interpretation is perfectly in line with the more traditional looking structures that are common around Chicago. This way, Avalon Holdings is able to develop buildings with impressive designs without forgetting the needs of the individuals who will live in them.
Some of these buildings’ designs feature large window openings to allow for bright natural illumination during the day. There are multiple metal structures integrated into the balconies and around the main entrance which will be used as a display for foliage as well. Meanwhile, the multi-colored masonry was implemented to achieve a scatter plot matrix effect. Gene Bernshtam believes this multi-colored brickwork has an interesting and engaging design, and it shows in the way every little part of the design comes together to create a remarkable contemporary structure.
Additionally, the units will all have 10- to 11-foot ceilings and modern amenities. Add in a huge roof deck, LED lighting, 25 interior heated parking spots and a large amount of bicycle storage, and Chicago finally has got itself a transit-orientated project it can be immensely proud of.
Gene Bernshtam and his team at Avalon Holdings have just begun to shake things up a little in Chicago real estate.
